Images are due for the October 26 Competition

October 26 Competition deadline is Friday, Oct. 23 at 11:59 PM

Images can be 1400 pixels wide and 1050 pixels high. This change is in keeping with the New England Camera Club Council which has changed its image sizes for interclub competitions.

Here are some examples of images which can be submitted:

a landscape which is 1400 x 1050

a vertical which is 800 x 1050

a square image which is 1050 x 1050

Note that the vertical dimension cannot be more than 1050.

If you accidentally forget to resize your images, Photo Contest Pro may still accept them if they are not too far off.

However, everyone should strive to resize their images to conform to the guidelines.

The Assigned Subject for October is "Close Ups."

PRESENTER NEEDED

I received a request from a member who would like instruction in Photoshop Elements on how to delete objects in a picture.

I am sure others would like that, too.

Can you teach that in a short workshop on Zoom?

Contact me, Jan Doyle, and I will set it up:  jmdteach@comcast.net

"Infrared Connecticut" by William Barnett Oct 12th at 7pm

Join NHCC for a program "Infrared Connecticut" by William Barnett Oct 12th at 7pm

Today there is a lot of interest in infrared photography. It is a way to explore new worlds and capture fine art images. It changes the appearance of an image by creating false tones or colors. It stimulates your creativity. In this program Bill will explore what infrared (actually near infrared) radiation is and how it renders photographs of the world. Pure infrared radiation produces only black and white images, but also including part of the visible spectrum allows colored images to be created.

The images shown in this program are the result of an extended personal project where images from across Connecticut were captured using a series of filters. Filters included a normal visible filter and a variety of filters that admitted infrared radiation plus part of the visible spectrum. Each filter produced a different result. Bill will begin by briefly describing the Infrared Connecticut project and the reasons it was undertaken. He will describe the equipment used and compare the photographs that can be obtained using different filters. Finally, he will describe the post processing steps required for each type of filter. The presentation will conclude with a showcase selected from the many images captured during the project.

Field Trip to Branford Cancelled....New Trip to Guilford

All Things Change Including the Supply Pond Field Trip

After talking to Paul Peterson, I did a drive -by at the Supply Pond in Branford.  The trees are a 99.9% of green.  There is a sliver of color, but just a sliver.  It is not the wonderful, fall foliage reflections of past years. Therefore, that location has been cancelled.

Wait….. Paul came up with an alternative:  Strawberry Hallow Farm on Route 1 in Guilford.  Extremely picturesque, pumpkins, hay, stone walls, etc.  There is even a small shop for those who love to poke around.  The website says it is a “New England Postcard.”

Date:  October 15, 2020                Rain date:  October 17, 2020

Time:  9:30

Location: 2171 Boston Post Road, Guilford, CT

Parking:  on the Street

Please consider attending.  It will be fun to see everyone.

If you signed up for the Supply Pond,  you will still need to sign up for this trip.
