First Program “Sights & Sounds of the American Southwest”, Hazel Meredith, MNEC

Join us for our First program Monday 9-13

“Sights & Sounds of the American Southwest”, Hazel Meredith, MNEC

This show presents images from five trips over a period of three years to the Southwest – Grand Canyon/Sedona, AZ; Tucson, AZ; Santa Fe/Albuquerque, NM; Bryce Canyon/Zion National Park, UT; and Yellowstone.

Hazel and her husband, Dave, enjoy visiting the southwest and have come to appreciate the stark beauty of the desert and unusual rock formations throughout the area created eons ago – and seemingly, that time forgot. The geographical wonders of Yellowstone will transport you to more surreal landscapes.

Biography

Hazel is currently president of the Huntington Photographic Society; immediate past-president and current treasurer of the Greater Bridgeport Camera Club; president of the Connecticut Association of Photographers; and a member of the New Haven Camera Club and the Photographic Society of America – of which she is also the PSA “Journal” Camera Club Columnist.

Her photos have won many awards and competitions in the past few years in both local club competitions and international salons. She is a multi-star exhibitor in PSA, where she has also received four bronze stars and one silver star for her journalistic efforts. In 2008 she received an honors distinction of Master Member of the New England Camera Club Council (MNEC) during its annual conference.

Hazel has had several exhibits of her photographs at local libraries, restaurants and businesses throughout Connecticut and also enjoys teaching classes and seminars on Photoshop Elements and Pro Show Gold. She has taught for the Bridgeport Adult Education department as well as local camera clubs. She enjoys being active in the photographic community and helping others find the joy and satisfaction in taking beautiful images.

Sandy Sanderson's memorial Saturday 8-14 11am

It is with great sadness that we must share the news that Sandy Sanderson passed away this morning. He was one of our beloved long time members who supported the club with his attendance at meetings, joining field trips, and sharing his love and knowledge of photography. He hosted a happy hour at the NECCC conference for many, many years. Our sympathy goes out to Kathy Katz, his loving companion of 30 years and his caregiver in these last several months of illness as well as his family.

The memorial service will be held this Saturday August 14th at 11:00 AM at the Westbrook Congregational Church in Westbrook, on the green (exit 65). There are no calling hours and burial will be private. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT TRAFFIC IS ALWAYS HEAVY ON I 95 ON SATURDAYS. Plan you time accordingly. A full obituary will be in the New Haven Register.

Airshow field trip this weekend

This Saturday I (Linda) am in VT shooting Matt's sister's wedding, Ann is working, and Gerri is in Fla, so there will be nobody leading the trip to NY for the Airshow. I e-mailed Joe and Rick, but would you send a mass e-mail to the whole club about this?

Les Campbell 85th birthday

To all who went to Sky Meadow this year, and to all those who have gone there over years, I thought I would let you all know that Les Campbell will be celebrating his 85th birthday this coming Saturday, August 14. Quite a milestone, don't you think? At his age, however, many of his childhood friends have passed away, and his children and their children have settled in many different locations, although the family will be having their annual reunion at Sky Meadow that weekend too. I thought it would really be a wonderful tribute to Les if many of you could find the time to get Les a birthday card and send it off to him - let him know that he has many friends in this part of the country. Les has been a very good friend to the New Haven Camera Club for many years now and I think this is a great way to say "thank you" to him. If you are interested in sending Les a birthday card, here is his address:

Les Campbell
PO Box 1065
Belchertown, MA 01007-1065

Since he may not know many of you by name, I would suggest that after you do sign your name, you add "New Haven Camera Club" to let him know that you and the New Haven Camera Club are sending him warm wishes.

Thanks in advance.......
