NEW HAVEN CAMERA CLUB FIELD TRIP

ENDERS ISLAND, MYSTIC, CT

St. Edmund’s Retreat Center (at the end of the island)

This retreat community boasts 300 varieties of Dahlias, one of the largest Dahlia collections in New England! In addition to the Dahlias, other varieties of flowers assist in the vibrant splashes of color and beauty throughout the peaceful grounds.

Not into photographing flowers? Stroll toward the Sound and check out the wonderful harbor vistas, or take a closer look at the architecture of the chapel, grottos, and other buildings on the grounds. Check out the chapel’s interior for sacred art (Access to other buildings may be limited since this is a retreat center).

There’s also a book/gift shop on the premises.

LUNCH: We’ll meet back in the parking area and head out to the Red36 Restaurant at 2 Washington Street, Mystic. The menu leans toward seafood, but everyone can find something, including gluten-free meals.

Directions:

Drive to Mason Island. At the booth, you may be asked, “Where to?” The secret words, “The retreat center or Enders Island.” They’ll let you through.

We’ll meet in the parking lot on the left of the entrance (after coming off the causeway) at 10:00 AM!
