St.
Joseph’s is the Mother church and seat of the Archdiocese of Hartford. It was
designed by Eggers and Higgins of New York. It is constructed and reinforced by
concrete sheathed with Alabama limestone. The tower houses 12 carillon bells
crafted in the Netherlands designed by Verdin of Cincinnati.

Built
in 1871 by Richard Mitchell Upjon broke ground in 1872, and completed in 1878.
The exterior has typical crested roofs with heavily bracketed cornices as in
Napoleon lll style. The interior is contrasted by Victorian Gothic style by
William Mcpherson.

The
100 acre park is registered as an historic park. There are formal gardens,
green space, recreational facilities, and walking loops. The Pond House
Cafe is near a lake and is surrounded by paths of flowers. There is an
interesting mural on the back of the building not to be missed.
The
park also has two gazebos.
