October Photo Challenge ~ Yale University

  NEW HAVEN CAMERA CLUB CHALLENGE

OCTOBER 2021

Congratulations! You’re going to Yale University: BOOLA, BOOLA

Using the attached map as a guide, for the month of October, we encourage you to go to any location that is part of Yale University (not including Yale Medical Buildings, West Campus and Athletic Fields). The map (see below) should help you immensely.

There is so much to shoot with architecture, grounds, statues, and if you’re lucky, maybe you’ll catch a glimpse of Handsome Dan XIX.

BOOLA, BOOLA has a 121 year old history, believed to be written by Yale graduate (1901) Allan M. Hirsh, who adapted the song from a 1898 song called “La Hoola Boola.”. Its first known use was a year before it was published with the words posted on a tree near the Yale Bowl before Yale played Harvard. On November 14th, Yale beat Harvard 28-0 and fans ran out on the field singing the song.

You don’t have to learn the song for this challenge. If enough NHCC members participate in this challenge, however, with everyone contributing 4 images-might we get to 100-121 images? (# of years Boola, Boola has been sung) Might be a stretch and maybe too much for us as a club. (30 photographers X’s 4=120)

Same rules apply regarding sizing (1400 width,1050 height) and naming with first initial and last name-for example mine would be ayost_01, ayost_02 etc. Please send images to Colleen Reilly at colleen@halleycomm.net.

Great month to be outdoors taking photographs and perhaps fall leaves to frame some of our images of Yale Campus. If you have any questions/seek information, call me at 203-606-3894 or email me at arty43@comcast.net.
