The Monthly Photo Challenges have proved to be so popular that we are offering them throughout the summer months! Many people have said they are inspired seeing the images of other members that it makes them want to go out and shoot.

These Challenges are all about the fun of photography – capturing and sharing your view of the world through the camera lens.  It’s a chance to see what others caught, what you might have missed, what you want to capture the next time you visit, and, of course, to experience the beauty, and the nooks and crannies, of one special place.

So grab your camera while you’re enjoying the summer, and get ready for the next three months of Photo Challenges!

JUNE PHOTO CHALLENGE

Walnut Hill Rose Garden in New Britain

The park was designed in 1870 by renowned landscape architect, Frederic Law Olmsted, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The original Rose Garden was added in 1929 and after years of neglect, a restoration project began in 2009.

Today there are over 850 rose bushes and 75 different varieties, including hybrid tea roses grandiflora and floribunda, climbers and English roses tended by hundreds of volunteers who love flowers, their city and its history. The roses surround and form an elliptical courtyard for easy walking among the flowers. There is also a large obelisk memorial to honor the soldiers of World War II.

The Rose Garden is at the very top of the park with plenty of parking. It sits behind the New Britain Museum of American Art which is an added bonus that you should stop to visit.
